What is PatternSpace?

PatternSpace is a macOS test pattern generator for display calibration. It renders precise SDR and HDR patches, pattern grids, clipping checks, gamma tools, and color swatches on the display you choose.

Does it work with ColourSpace, CalMAN, and PGenerator?

Yes. PatternSpace Pro supports network automation from ColourSpace, CalMAN, and PGenerator. It also includes PatternSpace Remote, an open WebSocket JSON-RPC protocol for scripts and custom controllers.

What is included in the free download?

The free Mac App Store download includes the full pattern library, Device Native and Display SDR output, 14 SDR reference presets, full and legal ranges, and a Remote evaluation allowance.

When do I need PatternSpace Pro?

Pro unlocks ColourSpace, CalMAN, and PGenerator automation, unlimited PatternSpace Remote rendering, advanced HDR output presets, Peak White and EDR controls for Mac display HDR, LUT Tools export (Beta), ICC export, and live VCGT apply. DeckLink SDI output is a separate purchase.

Can PatternSpace create or calibrate an ICC display profile?

Yes. The macOS ICC profile tools build SDR matrix/TRC profiles and import compatible .cube curves as VCGT. You can inspect, compare, and assign display profiles. Read-back confirms profile state; display accuracy requires measurement. See all guides.

What does LUT Tools (Beta) include?

LUT Tools is a native Mac workbench for inspecting and composing LUT transforms. Import .cube, .3dl, and ARRI Look files, combine transforms in a node chain, apply ASC CDL adjustments, and review sampled diagnostics before export. Inspecting and building chains is free; writing LUT or ICC files requires Pro. See the LUT Tools guide.

What Mac and macOS version does PatternSpace require?

PatternSpace requires macOS 15.6 or later and runs on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. All rendering uses Metal, so any Mac that runs macOS 15 qualifies. No additional runtime or drivers are needed for Mac display output; DeckLink SDI output requires compatible Blackmagic hardware and Desktop Video 16.4.x.

How accurate is the patch output?

PatternSpace renders patches through a Metal EDR pipeline at up to 16 bits per channel, locked to vsync with no drift. Colorimetric output presets cover Device Native, Display SDR, 14 SDR references, and HDR. Patch values are what you request — display accuracy depends on the display and requires measurement hardware.
